Being a working mom is no walk in the park. When it comes to navigating our professional lives, we gain so much when we rely on each other for advice, support, and hard-earned wisdom — even if it comes in the form of social media posts. Here are five female-run career-focused Instagram accounts I love to follow.
These accounts share joy, triumph, and pitfalls, career pivots, the reality of transitions, the struggles, and the blessings — and everything in between. This is for both the moms who work in the home and outside it — the stay-at-home parent with a side hustle and the mom navigating the corporate ladder.
May we all know our worth, add taxes, shipping, and handling, and carry on!
1. @fly.nanced (Cinneah El-Amin)
I started following Cinneah as she was jetting around the world thanks to her six-figure remote-work life — and sharing all the tips on how we could be doing the same. She is open in sharing how she made moves in the corporate world by strategically job hopping. She also offers phenomenal insights into which companies are hiring, how to transition into these roles, and what different companies are looking for. Above all else, she maintained that honesty when she was laid off earlier this year and has been able to find it a “blessing in disguise.”
2. @advicewitherin (Erin McGoff)
Erin’s content runs the gamut from interviewing for jobs to negotiating contracts to working well with others. Her style comes off as “big sister,” and she has great “scenario reels” to make you feel at ease. Erin is the friend who would make sure your resume is solid, that you’re prepped for an interview, and that you know your worth from the beginning. I’m sure she’d let you borrow that suit jacket of hers, too! More importantly, though, she’ll make sure you understand your 401K so you won’t have to borrow from it again in the future.
3. @mandimoney (Mandi Woodruff-Santos)
When someone is a “coach,” they don’t just know the game, they’re able to lead you through it. And that’s exactly what Mandi does. A mom of two, Mandi provides knowledge, strategy, and informative reminders to keep both your skills and your network warm. Her podcast with Tiffany Aliche of @BrownAmbitionPodcast will take you places you didn’t know you needed to go, and even more will be coming soon since she landed a book deal a few months ago!
4. @millennialindebt (Melissa Jean-Baptiste)
Melissa’s recently released book, “So This Is Why I’m Broke,” combined with her website and social accounts shows she is multi-faceted in her approach to financial freedom. Melissa has the ability to meet you where you are while guiding you in your transitions. Whether it’s finding something remote or learning to highlight your soft skills, you can follow Melissa for honesty, advice, and breaking down believable numbers. Melissa makes these baby steps attainable when you can’t see the whole ladder!
5. @BonnieDilberRecruiting (Bonnie Dilber)
I started following Bonnie on LinkedIn after hearing her speak at an event. I was immediately drawn to her for her ability to keep it real as both a woman and a working mom. What’s kept me around, however, is her transparency as a lead recruiter, her humor, and her vast resources. With a newsletter providing resources like the STARR method and conversations around AI, “link in” with Bonnie if you want to land on your feet!
These five women are sharing the tips and tricks that have served them well (and, at times, not so well), being transparent in a sector that doesn’t always provide it — on a platform that doesn’t always cater to it. These Instagram accounts have helped me personally, and I hope the same for you. Here’s to a time where we share, support, and uplift as we continue to shatter glass ceilings in all of our worlds.
