Singers and performers: Boston Children’s Chorus Summer is BACK!

BCC SUMMER is a Summer camp for singers and performers and all children ages 7-12! All experience levels are welcome. Tuition is $550 with an extra fee for an extended day. However, finance will not be a barrier to participation in BCC SUMMER. Any singer who wishes to participate will have the opportunity. Scholarships are available by an application during registration.

The 2022 program runs July 25-29, 2022, from 9:00 am – 4:00 pm, hosted at our South Boston, air-conditioned rehearsal space, with a concert on Friday at 6:00 pm! We also offer an extended day (extra fee included) with a 7:30 am – 8:45 am drop-off and a 4:15 – 6:00 pm pick-up.

BCC SUMMER singers progress through four days (Monday – Thursday) of a child-friendly, multidisciplinary schedule that opens up their creativity and connects them to new friends! On day five (Friday), we meet for our dress rehearsal, go on an excursion related to the sessions’ theme, and will celebrate our week together with an evening concert, open to the public. Register here!

After a two-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic, BCC is excited for BCC SUMMER to be back! This year’s one-week session is titled: “Coming Home,” where singers will explore the theme of home and what it means for them and learn ways to expand their sense of community & belonging.

At BCC, our learning outcomes are both musical and extra-musical. Your young singer will develop musical skills toward further success at school and at BCC; they will learn to have agency over their singing voice, and become more familiar with solfege (do, re, mi – like The Sound of Music), and learn to read and execute rhythmic patterns. Most importantly, your child will embody these topics through rehearsal, activities, games, and performance!

BCC teaches beyond rote musical concepts, connecting the sung material directly to your child’s understanding of their world. Visual arts, conversations, excursions, and of course, our music will expose new understandings, for example, of social justice and various cultures. Why do we sing into social justice? How are various cultures experienced in song? These are among the many questions we ask this summer in our music, friendships, and fun!

The BCC Summer week-long schedule is designed to help your child stay engaged, encourage them to explore many ways of being creative, and empower them to prepare a full concert program in a week’s time. A BCC conductor leads choral rehearsals; breakout sessions are led by our faculty of teaching artists (dance, visual art, and more). This year’s teaching staff are Destiny Cooper (Conductor), Ann-Marie Ciaraldi, MFA (Dance Teacher) & Sara Peattie (Puppeteer). Our fantastic team of counselors made up of dedicated high school members of Boston Children’s Chorus will lead additional activities.

BCC has appeared in TED talks, regular appearances on local TV and radio networks, and performances with high-profile artists, including Idina Menzel, Javier Muñoz, Hugh Jackman, Leslie Odom Jr, and Melinda Doolittle.

In 2018, Boston Children’s Chorus (BCC) was thrilled to re-introduce our summer program, BCC SUMMER, for the first time in more than ten years. This program aims to act as a bridge between our yearly programming and the summer months to provide continued learning and education to our singers and families. Additionally, it’s an opportunity for potential singers and families considering joining BCC to try it out before signing up for the year. During our first summer back, 131 vocalists sang, danced, made beautiful visual art, discussed social justice, and toured the African American Museum, Arnold Arboretum, and Boston Harbor Islands.
