I can’t believe we are finally saying goodbye to that awful winter and are now saying hello to sunshine and warmth! With this lovely change in the weather comes my little guys’ favorite time of year — summer! Summer means lots and LOTS of water play! We are big beach people, and we typically pack the car up on a weekend and spend at least one of the days playing in the sand and catching some waves. Sometimes we just need to chill at home, though, and the water table can be far less exciting than the surf. So if you’re looking to change it up from the same old thing, check out our ways to make a splash — beyond the water table!

The good old fashioned sprinkler

My guys love the sprinkler! Who knew this small, basic stream of water could light their eyes up and provide an afternoon of delight?! Keep it simple — let them run it out while also cooling off!

“Paint” something

I can’t take credit for this idea, but I’ve totally decided to steal it from my cousin. This is so simple and yet amazing all at once! Fill a couple of buckets with water (give everyone their own if they’re under age 4). Hand each kid their own paintbrush and tell them to start painting! This could be a deck, an outdoor chair, toys, your driveway — the possibilities are endless.

2Water your plants or garden

My boys love helping mom and dad water the plants. Plus, it’s a great way to get the kids involved with chores without them even knowing it. Hand them their own watering can or even help them use the hose. You’ll have a blast getting wet and keeping your landscaping green and pretty!

This may or may not be the type of toy that works for your family, but my 4-year-old loves squirting everyone and everything! This can go from being fun to being a fight with a preschooler and a toddler, so this definitely takes some close monitoring. It can be a great way for the kids to burn off some energy and keep cool in the sun!

How will your family make a splash this summer?
