mom shaming - Boston Moms

Parenting is hard. Parenting during a global pandemic feels impossible. There are a hundred decisions to make right now that no parent in history has had to make before.

Becoming a mom has humbled me and given me so much compassion for other parents. It has made me root FOR other parents, not against. I love seeing my friends’ happy Instagram posts of their children’s latest memories. I gladly celebrate my friends’ milestone victories like they are my own.

Likewise, I empathize totally when a friend reaches out on Facebook asking for advice on how to survive a sleep regression, how to get a picky eater to eat, or whether to send their children to school in the fall.

Right now, we are all navigating uncharted, murky, rough waters the best we can. Maybe your family, your friends, or even you have been a little hard on yourself recently. I may not know you personally, but I want you to know there is someone out there who is cheering you on. However you were able to survive the day with your little people, good for you! I have no room to judge — honestly, none of us do.

Hurt people hurt people. Likewise, content people do not feel the need to project negatively onto other people’s lives. Parenting is challenging enough without the added stress of feeling shamed for our decisions. So, let’s just not.

Be kind to yourself. Be kind to others.
