pandemic bread baking yeast - Boston MomsFriendly PSA for all you overly optimistic pandemic bread bakers:

If you bought an exorbitant amount of yeast in bulk at your local wholesale store at the beginning of the 2020 quarantine, it is now time to dig it out from the back of your fridge, dust it off, and discard it. It has run its course.

We take with us the few extra pounds from making weekly pizza doughs, the memorable entertainment our baking endeavor brought to otherwise dark times, the toleration of our families, the gratitude that we can just buy the flipping loaf of sourdough at the store, and the puzzling question of why an ingredient that recipes call for so little of would even be sold in bulk? Don’t think too hard on this.

The point is not that we all became artisan bread makers, but that the yeast actually helped us to rise when we needed it most.

Thank you for the gift of distraction, active dry yeast. Your journey into the garbage can today shall not have been in vain.
