drive-in theater - Boston Moms

Drive-in movies are the perfect summer experience! Pop open the hatch and sit in the trunk, or grab some blankets and lawn chairs and set up right at the bumper to watch your favorite flicks on the big screen, under the stars!

Here are some of Boston Moms’ favorite drive-in movie theater locations this summer! Have some to add to the list? Let us know in the comments!

West of Boston

Mendon Twin Drive-In

35 Milford St., Mendon

“America’s most beloved drive-in movie theater” has been running movies for the past 64 years! Each night they run double features on each of their two giant screens. There is also a kid-friendly beer garden with a snack bar, an ice cream stand, and fire pits for making s’mores.

North of Boston

Northfield Drive-In Theater

981 Northfield Road, Hinsdale, New Hampshire

The Northfield Drive-In is just a stone’s throw over the Massachusetts/New Hampshire border, and it’s certainly worth the trip! This classic drive-in is celebrating 74 years in business, and its retro feel is family fun for everyone! The snack bar opens at 6:30 p.m., with double features playing throughout the season!

South of Boston

Star Drive-In

205 Myrick’s Street, East Taunton

A different movie will be shown on the big screen at sunset every Saturday night. This fun event is free! What a wonderful gift to the local community! Bring a blanket or chair and enjoy. Kids and adults alike will love the fun menu and impressive ice cream selection!

Wellfleet Drive-In Theatre

51 State Highway, Route 6, Wellfleet

This classic drive-in theatre is a throwback to the origination of drive-ins in 1957! It is the last of its kind on the Cape and one of only about 300 left in the entire country! Get there early to enjoy a round of mini-golf before the double-feature movie!

Rustic Tri-View Drive-In

1195 Eddie Dowling Highway, North Smithfield, Rhode Island

As the last-standing drive-in in Rhode Island, this outdoor theater showcases double features from April to September! Gates open every weekend at 6:30 p.m.

Other Outdoor Movies

Looking for other outdoor movies in Boston this summer? We have a whole list of them — and they’re free!

Deanna Greenstein
Deanna is a mom of five (yes, five) children, who lives in Brockton with her small circus of kids, her husband, their dog Penny, and a few cats. Her life is loud, energetic, mostly fun, often gross (did she mention four of those kids are boys?), and she wouldn't have it any other way. In between carting kids to school, baseball, gymnastics, guitar, dance, track and field and every other kid activity known to mankind, she works as a school bus driver for the city of Brockton, and is the Director of Religious Education at the Unity Church of North Easton, a Unitarian Universalist congregation. Deanna also holds degrees in Elementary Physical Education and Dance Education, which she plans to put back into use one day. At parties, Deanna can often be found hanging out with family pets. She follows her children around with a camera like the paparazzi, is pretty sure that 97% of her blood stream is made of coffee, and her laundry is never done.
