Parenting- Boston Moms

In an ideal world, parenting would be effortless, with a guide for every situation. However, we all know that’s not the reality. Each child is unique, requiring special love, care, and nurturing. So, without a parenting manual, what can you do? That’s where Boston Moms comes in. Our team consists of more than 40 contributors from different backgrounds and family structures, bringing a diverse range of experiences from various walks of life and parenthood.

Parenthood is an amazing journey, filled with challenges and beautiful moments. The anticipation and mixed emotions during pregnancy mark the beginning of this transformative experience. The newborn phase brings sleepless nights and countless diaper changes, but oh, the incomparable joy of witnessing your baby’s first smile! As your little one blossoms into a curious toddler, the journey transforms into a whirlwind of managing tantrums, fostering independence, and cherishing their first words and wobbly steps. The school years unveil a whole new spectrum of challenges, as you navigate the delicate balance between academics, extracurricular activities, and the intricate world of social development. And as the teenage phase unfolds, their identity takes shape, boundaries are established, and the need for open communication becomes paramount. Every stage of motherhood, though it can be tough, strengthens the unbreakable bond between a mom and her child.

Our goal at Boston Moms is to be there for you during every stage of parenthood, offering resources and support. Whether you need guidance or just someone to be there, we want to walk alongside you in your parenthood journey.

I've always loved this time of year for the newness of it all. Shiny new shoes, brand new clothes, sleek new haircuts, backpacks filled with new supplies. The days are getting shorter, the air is sometimes a bit cooler,...
It's summer time! Time to pack up the kiddos and explore all Boston has to offer. I’ve rounded up my top eight fun and free-for-kids activities to do in the area while the warm weather lasts. Take them out to a ball...
Those who know me know that Sunday mornings are sacred. No, it is not because we go to church. It is because I go to Zumba. “So what?”, you may ask. Let me repeat- I go to Zumba. I,...
When they’re babies, it’s just plain old sleep deprivation. Nothing fancy, just a basic form of torture outlawed by the Geneva Convention yet somehow totally cool when perpetrated by a tiny human that looks marginally like you. Then as they get older, their torturing skills mature. It becomes less about brute force denial of sleep and more about finding psychological mechanisms for draining the joy out of the act of sleep.
When I was pregnant, I had all sorts of ideas and goals about parenting. Some I stuck with, and some went out the window. But one thing that always drew eye rolls, snickers, and, "Good luck with that," was...
Life with a middle schooler is busy! Between school, sports, friends, activities, and the pull of screens, it can feel impossible to get your middle schooler to read. As a reading intervention teacher and a mom of tweens, I...
Last week our nation was split once again. Though this time it was not Democrats versus Republicans or Coke versus Pepsi. This time it was the owner of Marcy's Diner in Portland, Maine, versus the parents of a 21-month-old girl. We...
I love surprises. I love experiencing surprises, and I love keeping surprises even more. We were astonished in November when we discovered we were expecting our third baby. As my due date is right around the corner, I wanted to...
Anyone remember that scene in "Baby Mama" where Maura Tierney catches one of her kids with brown stuff on their hands and asks him, "Is that chocolate or poop?" then proceeds to lick it off before getting an answer. "It's...
I am choosing to show my children how to be the good in the world. I want to teach my children how to give people the benefit of the doubt. I want them to learn how to communicate with people when they are unsure, confused, or hurt. I want them to be able to accept people as they are and not what they think they should be. We all have learned some lessons on our life journey, and all of us have missed a few lessons. So instead of passing judgment on one another for being an authentic, flawed human, let's embrace the idea that most of us out there really just want to be good and trust their intentions.
No more diapers! When we got through the diapers phase with my two sons (hurray!), we experienced an occasional "Can't I go to the bathroom anywhere?" phase. My kids were outside constantly as toddlers — and often without diapers....
My twins have just entered toddlerhood. It is intense. Almost everyone says the first year with twins is the hardest, but I thoroughly enjoy babies. And while I was (and still am) certainly sleep deprived, I spent the first...
