I’m loving summer. The heat waves, the beach, the lobster rolls, the al fresco dining… the list goes on and on. Let’s just say I’m happy. And the rest of Boston seems to have a spring in their step, too.

The first day of school is around the corner. Just a week away for many schools in Boston. So as parents, we need to start physically, mentally, and emotionally preparing. We need to go shopping for school supplies and new clothes. But do we really need to stock up on turtlenecks and plaid shirts? I mean, September is still blazing hot most of the time. Amirite?!

I couldn’t believe my eyes when I popped by the mall the other day to beat the heat (my car thermometer clocked in at 97 degrees). So there I was, sweating in a tank top and shorts, with the AC cranked up all around me, walking by store fronts with heavy sweaters and vests on display. Vests with fur-trimmed hoods. FUR-TRIMMED HOODS. Let that sink in for a second.

And the other day, when I ran into Walgreens for toilet paper, I spotted a mini candy corn display in the candy aisle. Candy freaking corn. What’s next, a giant Halloween exhibit, complete with costumes and pumpkins and trick-or-treating buckets?

I know this is coming off a bit rant-y. But I’m sure most of you can relate. This is Boston, where the weather is hit or miss most of the time. So when it’s nice, I’d like to bask in the sun — not shop for a snow suit.

What do you think? Are you ready for fall? Or still in full-on summer mode? And, more importantly, have you seen any ridiculous displays of “fall” in stores?
