With this lovely September weather nearing its end (sorry for the reminder), we are in crunch time to enjoy the great outdoors before they freeze over. If you’re beginning to feel the cold weather looming, and possibly sensing a little guilt about not enjoying every possible moment of potential outdoor time, grab your man and head outside for a night out. And if your family’s budget looks anything like ours after summer travel and activities, any way to not spend money is preferred over… well, all other things. Check out this list of five free dates to celebrate the last few weeks of delightful warm nights.

5 free outdoor dates in boston

Stargaze at Coit Observatory

What’s more romantic than lying under the stars with your one and only? Located on the roof of the BU College of Arts & Sciences, this night out is free to the public on Wednesdays.

Tango by moonlight

There’s no sexier dance around than the tango. Get a free lesson on the Weeks Pedestrian Bridge near Harvard Square, and spend the evening dancing the night away.

Go for a Boston HarborWalk

A little history, a little handholding, and a lot of free fun! If you’re interested in holding off the chit-chat till later in the day, you can download a free walking tour here.

Tour the Arnold Arboretum

Getting out to appreciate nature can be rejuvenating for the soul and a great bonding opportunity for you and your hubs. Head out to Jamaica Plain to enjoy the beautiful foliage at the gardens — the Arboretum even offers free guided tours through November.

Check the calendar

The Boston Calendar is a great resource for events all over the city. You can even filter by “free” and “date night.” (And there are plenty of other filters you can use, like “kid friendly,” “music,” and “food.”)  So, have at it and enjoy, mamas!
